Cecília Meireles Room

The Cecília Meireles Room is located at Lapa neigborhood, Rio de Janeiro, Brasil.

It is a traditional concert house of music chamber in the city's cultural scene, so called as a tribute to the poet (and amateur pianist) Cecilia Meireles. The building was built at the end of the nineteenth century, having originally worked as a hotel under the name of “Grande Hotel da Lapa”. Already hosted major landowners and politicians of the Old Republic.

In 1948 it was retired, turning into a movie theater, with the name of “Cine Colonial”.

Two decades later, aiming to create a space for the soft music, particularly chamber music, the old cinema has given place to the Cecilia Meireles Room.
